Editorial policy

What we will and will not publish, where every figure comes from, and how commercial links are kept out of the rankings.

Sourcing

Where every number comes from

Every specification on this site is taken from the manufacturer’s own published figures on that model’s current live listing. Not from a comparable model, not from a third-party database, not from memory.

Where safety or standards claims are made, we cite the source — the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, the ASTM F963 toy-safety standard, or the CDC clinical growth charts for the weight percentiles our age guidance is built on. Every page carries a Sources section listing what it drew on.

Where a manufacturer does not publish a figure, we print that. The row reads not stated by maker. We will not fill a gap with an estimate from a similar product, because an estimate presented in a spec table is indistinguishable from a manufacturer’s figure and that is misleading.

Claims

What we will not claim

These are absolute, and they are the reason several things you might expect are absent from this site.

We will not claim to have tested anything. We do not run a product testing lab, we have not driven these vehicles, and no page on this site will say otherwise. Phrases like “we tested”, “in our testing”, “field-tested” or “we spent six weeks with” do not appear anywhere, in copy, headings, meta descriptions, alt text or structured data.

We will not publish star ratings, review counts or aggregate ratings. We have no first-party rating data, and Amazon’s ratings belong to Amazon. The schema builders for those fields do not exist in our code, so the markup is unrepresentable rather than merely discouraged.

We will not publish testimonials. There are none on this site and none will be invented to fill a layout.

We will not invent credentials. Mike M. is the owner of Iron Mako Media and that is the whole of his stated qualification. There is no claimed certification, no medical or engineering credential, and no expert panel.

We will not use manufactured urgency. No “limited time”, no “only N left”, no countdowns, and no “lowest price” or “best deal” claims, because we cannot verify them.

We will not describe a product as top-rated, award-winning or five-star unless there is a named award or a verifiable rating behind it. There is not, on this site, so those words do not appear.

Prices

The price standard

No price is typed into a page. Prices render only from a live data layer refreshed daily, and every displayed price carries the date it was checked.

Prices older than 48 hours disappear automatically and the page shows “check price” instead. If our refresh breaks, you see no number rather than an old one. That is the design: the failure mode is silence.

Commerce

How commercial links stay separate

This site earns a commission on purchases made through its links. Rideontoy Guide is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.

Three things keep that separate from the rankings:

The rubric is published. The scoring criteria and their priority order are on how we pick, and they weight fit, safety and disclosure above everything else. Commission rate is not a criterion and does not appear in the rubric.

We recommend against products in their own entries. Several products on this site have a “what doesn’t” list longer than their pros, and several roundups name a cheaper rival as the better buy. If we only said good things, the rankings would mean nothing.

We say when not to buy at all. The motor-upgrade page talks most readers out of the upgrade. The age pages tell you not to buy up a bracket. The weight-limit page tells you a vehicle you may already own is finished. None of that maximizes revenue, and all of it is the honest answer.

Every commercial link is marked rel="sponsored nofollow" per Google’s link-spam policy and carries a visible #ad label. Full detail on our affiliate disclosure.

Independence

No manufacturer involvement

No manufacturer, retailer or brand has paid for coverage on this site, been given a preview of a page, or had any input into a ranking or a score. We are not affiliated with Fisher-Price, Power Wheels, Peg Perego, Kid Trax, Radio Flyer, Razor, Best Choice Products or any other brand named here. Brand names are used for identification only.

We do not accept free products, because accepting one would create exactly the obligation this policy exists to avoid — and because we do not test products, there would be nothing to do with it.

Corrections

How we handle being wrong

We will get things wrong. When we do, we want to know, and a wrong specification is the most useful correction we can receive.

Because each product exists as a single record read by every page, a correction propagates everywhere at once rather than leaving stale copies behind. Material corrections update the page’s last-updated date, which is displayed on every page alongside the byline.

Report an error via our contact page or at contact@rideontoyguide.com.

Safety

Our position on safety content

We write about safety where the specifications bear on it — speed against age, weight limits, restraint type, parent remotes — and we cite the CPSC and ASTM F963 where relevant.

We are not a safety authority and nothing on this site is a substitute for the manufacturer’s own instructions, a product recall notice, or adult supervision. Where our guidance is more conservative than a manufacturer’s stated age range — and on several pages it is — we say so and explain why.

Read are ride-on cars safe for the fullest statement of that position.
